Tippspiel Widget for Staffbase

Overview

The Tippspiel widget turns a sports tournament into a shared experience for your whole workforce. Employees predict scores, answer bonus questions and see in real time how they stack up against their colleagues. Identity, scoring and the leaderboard all run centrally. No separate account, no spreadsheet, no manual point counting.

Why this widget?

A classic office prediction pool tends to live in an Excel sheet that gets emailed around. Someone maintains the picks, someone tallies the points, someone chases the latecomers. The Tippspiel widget keeps the social, competitive feel and takes the operational work away:

Features

A prediction for every match

Each match shows both teams, kickoff time and a score input. Once kickoff happens, the inputs lock automatically. No late entries.

Live leaderboard

Ranked list of every participant with rank, name and points. The current user’s row is highlighted, even when outside the top 10. Optional Staffbase-group filter for department rankings.

Bonus questions

Tournament-wide questions with multiple-choice or free-text answers: „Who will win the tournament?", „Who will be top scorer?" One answer per person, deadline aligned with the tournament. Bonus points feed into the regular leaderboard.

Scoring rules

Default ruleset, configurable per tournament:

In the knockout stage, match points are doubled. Point values, the knockout multiplier and the points per bonus question can be set per tournament.

Self-service admin in the widget

Staffbase admins switch the widget into admin mode and manage the tournament from there:

• Bonus questions: create, edit, deactivate and set deadlines
• Scoring rules: adjust exact, goal difference, tendency, knockout multiplier and bonus-question points
• Match overrides: correct a result in case of a dispute, only for your tournament, without affecting other customers
• Custom tournaments: upload your own schedule alongside official tournaments like the World Cup, European Championship or Bundesliga

What this widget does NOT do

• ❌ No real-money betting. Points only, not a gambling platform.
• ❌ No private bets between individuals. Every prediction is part of the tournament-wide leaderboard.
• ❌ No own push notifications. Reminders go through the regular Staffbase notification flow.
• ❌ No chat or commentary layer. That’s what Staffbase Posts are for. The widget stays focused.

How to get the widget

Tippspiel is a native widget with a hosted backend. Infrastructure and the match data for official tournaments come from JASP. You don’t operate anything yourself.

1. Request it. Get in touch through the contact form and let us know you’d like to run a Tippspiel.
2. Activation. We check your plan (Pro and above) and enable the widget in your Widget Builder account.
3. Pick a tournament. Choose an official tournament (for example a running World Cup, European Championship or Bundesliga) or upload your own company tournament.
4. Embed. Place the widget on a Staffbase page, optionally inside a group-restricted area.
5. Configure. Use the admin mode to tailor bonus questions, scoring rules and deadlines to your tournament.

That’s it. Identity, prediction lock, scoring and leaderboard run automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Who maintains the match data?

For official tournaments like the World Cup, European Championship or Bundesliga, JASP maintains the teams, schedules, kickoff times and final results. For your own internal tournaments you upload the schedule and enter results via admin mode.

What can we configure as a customer?

You decide whether the widget is embedded, on which page, and for which audience (everyone or a specific Staffbase group). Inside the widget you also manage bonus questions, scoring rules and, if you run your own tournament, the schedule and the results.

Do we need our own backend URL?

No. Backend and API address are wired into the widget. As soon as we enable it for your account, the plumbing is taken care of. There is no URL to copy or paste.

Is it GDPR-compliant?

Yes. We store only the Staffbase user ID, a display name, the tenant ID and the predictions / points themselves. No email address, no IP, no behavioural tracking. A standard data processing agreement (AVV / DPA) is part of the contract.

What happens after the tournament ends?

The leaderboard stays readable for „Hall of Fame" purposes. After that, predictions and bonus answers are deleted. Your tenant configuration stays so the next tournament can re-use the setup.

Can we adjust scoring rules or bonus questions ourselves?

Yes. Both are managed inside the widget in admin mode. Point values for exact, goal difference, tendency, the knockout multiplier and bonus-question points can be set per tournament. Bonus questions can be created with custom answer options and deadlines.

What if our company doesn’t care about football?

The widget works with any tournament where two sides produce a result. Table-tennis leagues, internal quiz brackets, Eurovision predictions, anything with a defined finish.

📌 What works

• Open bonus questions early. Schedule overall-winner and top-scorer questions one to two weeks before the tournament starts so attention ramps up before the first match.
• Lean into department leaderboards. „IT vs HR" generates more participation than a single global ranking.
• Weekly top-three post. A quick Staffbase post highlighting the leaders keeps engagement up through the group stage.

⚠️ What to avoid

• Don’t change the scoring rules mid-tournament. Re-scoring is technically supported but undermines trust in the leaderboard.
• Don’t tie predictions to real-money prizes. That can shift the legal classification of the activity in some jurisdictions.
